From Ocean Cleanup to Improved Cookstoves: Nimbus Hosting’s Initiatives to Offset Remaining Emissions
By Mike | 25 Jun 24
We are thrilled to announce that we have successfully reduced our carbon emissions by an impressive 58%!.
While this achievement marks significant progress, we still have 43,462kg of emissions to address. We recognise the increasing challenges ahead in further reducing our carbon footprint, but we are fully committed to this mission.
In the meantime, we are taking immediate steps to offset our remaining emissions. This year, we have chosen two remarkable initiatives that are particularly meaningful to us at Nimbus.
Every year, over 12 million tonnes of plastic waste enter the ocean, particularly in developing countries that often lack adequate waste disposal infrastructure. To combat this, we are supporting the Ocean Plastic Project.
Plastic Bank empowers ethical recycling communities in vulnerable coastal areas. Community members can exchange collected plastic at local branches for benefits that improve their quality of life, such as health and life insurance, meal vouchers, and secure income.
For every tonne of CO2 saved through contributions to certified climate projects, 10 kg of plastic is collected in coastal regions. This initiative not only prevents plastic from entering the ocean but also protects sensitive marine ecosystems.
This initiative is especially dear to us, as our business conducts litter picks in Hertford every six months. The team dons their high-visibility jackets, grabs grabbers and bags, and heads out at around Hertford to collect litter for it to be recycled by the council.
Improved Cooking Stoves
According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2022), approximately one-third of the global population still relies on unsafe and environmentally harmful cooking methods. These methods often involve cooking over open fires or using polluting fuels such as coal or kerosene.
Improved cookstoves address this issue by using thermal energy more efficiently. Depending on the model, an improved cookstove can reduce fuel consumption by up to 70%, significantly cutting CO2 emissions and alleviating pressure on local forests by reducing the need for firewood.
Our project supports families in India, providing a dual benefit: reducing harmful indoor smoke exposure for women and children who are typically responsible for cooking, and contributing to environmental conservation.

We have partnered with Climate Partners to conduct our audits and manage our offsetting initiatives. You can view our full emissions breakdown and detailed information about our offsetting efforts on our corporate page on the Climate Partners website.
We are excited about our journey towards carbon reduction.
